Addressing the conference Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Chairman, Pakistan Ulama Council and special representative of the Prime Minister of Pakistan said all members of minority communities in Pakistan are equal citizens of Pakistan. He said I do not like to address them as “minority” but they should be called ‘Non-Muslim” Pakistanis.  It is for safeguarding non-Muslims lives, properties, dignity, and places of worship is not only a duty of the Pakistani State but also a responsibility of all Muslims. He Islam provided full protection of the lives, properties and places of worship of Christians and other minority communities as well. This is what we read in the Holy Quran and seen the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).   Our governments must ensure that all rights of minorities are fully protected.  The incident of Jaranwala in which 26 Church and over 86 houses of Christians were burnt and heinous suicide attack on Muslims in Hangu and Mustang on the rally celebrating the birth of Muhammad – the Prophet of Islam, have received many unanimous condemnations from religious and political organizations and individuals representing various schools of thought. He I strongly condemn attack of Christians in Jaranwala and burning their churches and houses. Christians must be provided justice and all culprits involved must be punished. He also sought forgiveness from the Christian community for the acts of vandalism against them in Jaranwala.

Muslim and Christian leadership and the thinkers participated and expressed their thoughts on unity and respect of all. The conference was attended by all religions and writers, political and religious parties, scholars, elders and religious leaders.

http://peacecenter.org.pk/upload/image006_4.pngHafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, said that the constitution of Pakistan guarantees the rights of individuals from all religions and denominations. Every Pakistani is duty-bound to protect the constitution. Non-Muslims residing in Pakistan should not be labeled as minorities but as non-Muslims.

Those responsible for these heinous acts should be brought to justice without discrimination. Any country’s survival and progress hinge on its justice system’s effectiveness. The commendable efforts undertaken by the Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Qazi Faiz Issa, to resolve long-standing blasphemy cases pending in the Supreme Court for decades are praiseworthy. We hope that the Honorable Chief Justice will set a precedent in this regard, inspiring those who succeed him to follow his exemplary lead both in letter and in spirit. Furthermore, we anticipate that the Honorable Chief Justice will reform the justice system in Pakistan, ensuring that the innocents are protected while those involved in crimes receive exemplary punishments.
